Avedon Inspiration

This is my photo that was inspired by Avedon.  When I originally saw Avedon’s hand picture, it reminded me of somebody holding a baseball.  That made me just want to put the baseball in there for real.  The old dirty baseball with the black and white hand makes it look like it was taken a long time ago to me.

Here is the original picture, which I was inspired by.

Penn Inspiration

This is my photo that was inspired by Penn.  I couldn’t find just the right flower, but I think this leaf works well.  Although it’s not perfectly flat, it’s flat enough and I really like the detail of the veins in the leaf.

This is the picture that I was inspired by for this picture.  It’s very different from my picture but I started out the day trying to copy this picture and just went from there to end up at my leaf picture.

Horst Copy

This is the picture that I took, trying to get the same look of a famous picture by Horst P. Horst.

This is the original photo, which I was trying to copy.

High-Key

This is my high-key photo.  I placed the photo directly in front of the subject and turned the power on the light way up.

High-Key

This is my Mid-Key photo.  I got the effect by placing the light directly to the left of my subject.

Low-Key

This is my low-key photo.  I got this effect for by placing the light behind and to the left of my subject.

Front

A soft box was and umbrella was used to make this picture.  The soft box, which was the key was placed in front of the picture and  the umbrella was on the left.

This photo is the same basically as the previous photo except I turned off the umbrella flash for this one.  To me, these photos look very similar.

Fill

This is my fill using a bounce photo.  My partner held up a white reflector on the left side of the photo while the softbox flashed on the right side.

This is my fill picture using a flash.  A flash with an umbrella was set off on the left while a softbox again fired on the right.

Sidelight

This is my high contrast sidelight picture.  I decided to sue the mannequin because I thought that the facial features would create nice shadows to show contrast.

This is my low contrast sidelight picture.  There’s still a little bit of a shadow but this was the least contrasty picture of all the ones that I took.

Backlight

This the picture that I took for backlight or rim light.  I’m not exactly sure what it is, but I just thought that it would look cool with lighting from the back so I gave it a try and after a few different compositions this is the one I liked the best.
